A one-of-a-kind, upcycled design made of repurposed wool and cashmere. This is a long, heavy sweater with an asymmetrical cut and an enormous hood which drapes like a shawl when worn down around the shoulders.
This piece was created for Ragfinery's Rags to Riches Fashion Show, where it was awarded the title of "Biggest Transformation" compared to the material I started with. This material was repurposed from 4 cashmere and merino wool sweaters, which all had defects (such as minor moth holes).
This design has an intentional shabby chic aesthetic, incorporating raw edges and exposed seams on the outside of the garment. These seams are reinforced with a double line of stitching, which will prevent the coat from actually coming apart. However, the raw edges will continue to fray and unravel over time, adding more of this tattered texture to the look. There are also small holes in the fabric, particularly the hood, which were unavoidable because of the material I worked with. These should not be considered defects but are a deliberate feature of the look.
This sweater coat was hand-washed with hypoallergenic detergent after the fashion show, but it is not suitable for those with wool or lanolin allergies.
Condition: Upcycled
Brand: Atelier Heidi
